Treatments are done approximately every week over a 4 month period. Home care recommendations will be included to maximize results. Microneedling

Also known as medical needling or collagen-induction therapy, this treatment increases healthy production of collagen and elastin in the skin cells to address issues such as wrinkles, scars, stretch marks, hyperpigmentation and uneven, pitted skin. It also drastically enhances the absorption of serums by creating micro-channels in the skin with either a hand held device or pen. We incorporate serums with active ingredients to deliver maximum results and a soothing post treatment mask.

Treatments can be done as a stand alone service or series but for optimal results, we strongly recommend that microneedling treatments are done as part of our facial rejuvenation acupuncture series. If medical micro-needling is recommended (skin roller or pen) we will usually wait until the 4th treatment to ensure your skin and you are ready for this step up. How does it work?

Acupuncture needles produce a micro-injury to the skin which creates a healing response, known as collagen-induction. Cosmetic acupuncture works by stimulating the body’s natural healing processes to improve skin appearance, primarily by increasing blood flow and promoting collagen and elastin production, which helps to reduce wrinkles and improve skin tone and elasticity.

As many beauty concerns arise from underlying health issues, we work on that too. We incorporate body acupuncture to relax you as this improves healing response. We utilize additional therapies such as LED Light Therapy, facial cupping, Gua sha or Heskiers fascial release to maximize the benefits.

Does it hurt?
Acupuncture is a relatively painless treatment due to the fine specialty needles that are used. We employs techniques that reduce sensation even on the most sensitive areas of the face. That being said everyone has a different sensitivity and comfort level so it is important to communicate with your acupuncturist during a treatment.
How long will it take for results to show?
From the first treatment there will be changes as we adjust muscle tone, release scar tissue, reduce inflammation and hydrate your skin. It will depend on the treatment specifics – it’s designed for you. This is, however, a progressive treatment and during a series changes will continue to be noticed. Remember real change takes time!
How long will they last?
Health and wellbeing is key to seeing results and maintaining them. So, lifestyle – particularly diet, hobbies and other activities may have contributed to the problem in the first place. You will receive ‘constitutional’ body acupuncture to help progress treatments and improve your health and relaxation at the same time. This is significant for achieving and maintaining outcomes. Improved sleep and having more energy is regularly reported as unexpected benefits by our patients. A series maybe recommended once a year to every few years to maintain results and we do recommend regular maintenance treatments which may be monthly and then spread to longer periods between packages.
Is there any ‘down time’ or side affects?
It is common to see a rosy flush/glow in the skin as circulation is improved. This will pass quickly, with our skincare assisting with this. Even with our gentle approach to microneedling, any redness will pass within 24 hours. We will take a detailed medical history, plan and adjust your treatment to avoid bruising which is a risk in any facial procedure. Our method and training is particularly aimed at reducing trauma to skin and beneath, pain and bruising risk. Treatments that create trauma can be less effective and carry increase risks of side effects.

What Are the Contraindications for Cosmetic Acupuncture?

This treatment may not be suitable for those with certain health conditions, such as pregnancy, uncontrolled high blood pressure, migraine headaches with an unknown cause, coronary heart disease or pacemakers, seizures, epilepsy and recent facial surgeries. Facial procedures such as Botox and dermal fillers require a wait time of 6 weeks before treating. It’s important to let us know the exact location of these procedures so we can adjust the facial acupuncture accordingly. Skin treatments such as laser resurfacing, chemical peels, IPL and microneedling require a wait time till the skin is fully healed.
